New Blogging Platform

After a number of years using Wordpress for the blog here, I’ve decided to migrate. Part of it is that Wordpress is a moving target, and I’m tired of updating it all the time. Since I’m a little bit of a digital native, and I don’t mind working with various obscure technologies, I figured I’d try Octopress.

It’s got a different tool-chain. Instead of a database driven, PHP-instrumented, dynamic blogging platform, it’s a static content generation engine. I get to define my blog posts as markdown text in essentially a YAML file. Once done, I run a Rake task, and voila – a properly constructed, static-HTML blog pops out.

I’ll experiment with this for awhile, and see if I can’t get a little more motivation to keep up the blogging…
